What is Optical Character Recognition, or OCR?
OCR is a technology process that automatically interprets text from a document. Our use of OCR derives text from physically scanned documents, usually paper. This is done during the scanning process as part of our services. The result is an Adobe PDF file, containing the scanned paper, which has the interpreted text (OCR) embedded behind the visible text. This allows users to easily search for keywords within that document or extract data for use in databases. Every file we process is generally at 300 dpi, which is very clean and high resolution (for reference industry standard is 200 dpi). However options up to 600 dpi are available where super high resolution may be needed.

What is an Adobe PDF file?
A Portable Document Format (PDF) file is a compressed, self-contained and cross-platform compatible file that can be opened on virtually every computer or mobile device in the world. The file, when opened, viewed or printed, will look virtually identical to the original print version, regardless of what kind of device is used to view or print the file.
Although a PDF file contains the complete original formatting, including fonts and images, PDF files are highly compressed, allowing mass information to be downloaded, viewed, printed and saved quickly and efficiently.

Why Include Document Imaging in a Disaster Recovery Plan?
There are numerous ways in which the critical information stored on paper can be lost. These events include aging, humidity, fire, flood, vandalism, and employee theft as well as natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes. What is PDF/A?
"PDF/A is a subset of PDF that eliminates certain risks threatening the one-to-one future reproducibility of the content. PDF/A forbids dynamic content to ensure that the user sees the exact same content both today and for years to come. Everything that is required to render the document the exact same way, every time, is contained in the PDF/A file: fonts, colour profiles, images etc. PDF/A is also an ISO standard, guaranteeing that future software generations will know how to open and render PDF/A files." - The PDF Association is an initiative of the Association for Digital Document Standards (ADDS) e.V., founded in September 2006, www.pdfa.org
